Cindy 2018 19. 2018.................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................Objective:To evaluate the efficacy of 1 mg and 5 mg finasteride (finasteride 1mg, 5 mg, 1 mg, or 5 mg tablets) for the treatment of patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) according to International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) questionnaire.
Patients and Methods:Forty-four men with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and idiopathic BPH were included in the study. Patients with mild to moderate symptoms of BPH were eligible for inclusion. Patients with BPH or who were treated with 1 mg and 5 mg finasteride daily were excluded.
Results:Of the 48 patients, 48 (83.3%) completed the study. In total, 38 (81.9%) received 5 mg and 30 (74.4%) received 1 mg finasteride daily. There were no significant differences between the finasteride 1 mg and 5 mg dosages in terms of IPSS score, changes in IPSS score, or changes in the IPSS questionnaire score among patients with BPH or BPH patients. The median duration of treatment with 5 mg finasteride was 3.5 months, with a mean of 2.1 months in patients with BPH or BPH patients, and a mean of 2.6 months in those with BPH or BPH patients. The median duration of treatment with 1 mg finasteride was 5.4 months, with a mean of 3.7 months in patients with BPH or BPH patients, and a mean of 2.3 months in patients with BPH or BPH patients. There was no significant difference in the mean IPSS score between the patients on 1 mg and 5 mg finasteride.
Conclusion:The 5 mg and 1 mg finasteride daily dosage regimen for patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in the 5 mg, 1 mg, and 5 mg tablet group showed better efficacy than the 5 mg, 1 mg, and 5 mg finasteride daily dosage regimen for the treatment of patients with BPH.
